Outreach & CD
In addition to a busy performing schedule, Jemima is also a fully qualified clinical music therapist and has provided community music in a wide variety of settings.
Outreach, Community Music & Music Therapy:
Understanding how important music can be to others and building on her twenty years experience as an Outreach and Community musician within schools, care homes, hospitals and prisons, Jemima completed an MA in Music Therapy at The University of the West of England (UWE) in 2015. After growing up in a household with a brother who had an undiagnosable brain virus and a sister who has autism, leaning disabilities, multiple sensory issues and is blind, Jemima’s sensitivity to communicate on many different levels started before she could even walk and talk. However, it wasn’t until enrolling on the course, that Jemima began to fully understand just how intrinsic music and alternative ways of ‘being’ and ‘communicating’ had been in her own life.
During the three year MA, Jemima worked within brain injury, child and adult palliative care, both on the ward and at home with patients and their families and discovered a hidden talent for song writing and legacy work with the dying and bereaved before becoming clinical music therapist at Heart Of The Forest for 3 years. She has since retired from music therapy work to concentrate on writing her own music.
Teaching:
Jemima has taught harp and music theory privately since she was 17 years old. A friendly and intuitive teacher who sees the unique potential in every student she has also been head of harp at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls, Pates Grammar School, Cheltenham and Wynstones School, Gloucester. After retiring from regular teaching in December 2022 to concentrate on her own music, she is still available for one off masterclasses on technique, repertoire, improvisation, jamming and and all things FX and electric!
